Three years ago we were here celebrating the fact that polymer art had become a medium of choice for entry into the permanent collections of major museums across the country. The Racine Art Museum has just announced that it will host another polymer symposium at the Johnson Foundation (Wingspread) in October 17-19, 2014. Plans are underway for 2, or possibly 3, exhibitions in the vicinity of RAM to coincide with the symposium. Event details will be forthcoming but please keep these dates in mind if you are interested in attending. RAM has established a page on their website that will be updated as they have more information to share.
Seeing polymer exhibited in the Racine Art Museum‘s elegant environment was a feast for the eyes, but the accompanying symposium, “Polymer: The Journey to New Terrain”, was like an all-you-can-eat buffet. Beginning Friday and lasting through Sunday, attendees gobbled up plates of ideas about the current and future state of polymer art. Topics were juicy, open ended and conversation flowed. The polymer art internet world has been abuzz since last weekend’s events at Racine Art Museum. The blogs are filled with fabulous “eye-candy” from the Terra Nova exhibition, of the attendees and the gorgeous setting. For me, one of the truly historic aspects of the weekend was the breadth and depth of discussions at the Symposium. As part of our mission, Polymer Art Archive wants to share some of the “meat” of that event.
The Racine Art Museum has just opened registration for Polymer: The Journey to New Terrain, a symposium to be held Friday, October 21 – Sunday, October 23 at The Johnson Foundation at Wingspread, a 14,000 square-foot home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in the 1930s.
