Election Day News Break

Sandra McCaw, Persian Cuff, 2007, polymer, gold leaf

Today Sandra McCaw announced that she is also a candidate for the 2009 Niche Award.

Here’s what Sandra just wrote about her work:

“This bracelet epitomizes my obsession with pattern and fascination with color. In the past couple of years I’ve been playing with the changes that occur in canes when only one color in a 3 color palette is swapped out, i.e.-russet, olive, plum/russet, olive, teal. The resulting canes, though at a glance project different color moods, harmonize wonderfully when married in a single piece.”

Her brooch was also featured on the cover of the recent publication, ‘THE ART OF JEWELRY: polymer clay‘ by Katherine Aimone. Sandra’s website is filled with images of her masterful caned polymer jewelry.

2″ diameter, polymer, sterling silver

I cannot remember a time in my life that I wasn't interested in looking at art, talking about art and the making of art. In 1990 I earned a Phd in art history at the University of Maryland. My first experiences with polymer clay were in 1992, but I consider my real work with the medium to date from 1999.
